Warren Schewitz - CEO and Founder

Warren Schewitz has over a decade of experience in business to business online auctions.  As founding management of OpenLane, Warren was part of the core team which grew the business to be the largest online B2B marketplace for used cars in North America .  Here Warren was responsible for the analysis, start up and execution of business model from inception to approx. $100 million in revenue.  Warren had extensive Financial, Operational and M&A responsibilities and was ultimately operationally responsible for over 50% of the company’s revenues including the development and management of the associated operations, logistics and customer relations to support this business. At OpenLane, Warren originated and executed on the acquisition and successful integration of web based shipping solution CarsArrive Network. CarsArrive has grown tenfold since the acquisition in 2007 and today transports over 200,000 vehicles per annum through a network of 3,000 carriers.  OpenLane was acquired by publicly traded KAR Holdings in August, 2011. In 2009, Warren formed Hedge Fund Sedgefield Capital with seed capital provided by a New York investor group. Warren returned with his family back to South Africa in 2011 and commenced with the launch of Clear Asset in early 2012.


Ariella Kuper - Managing Director and Founder

Ariella was an international steel trader for Macsteel for 8.5 years including several years as a senior trader responsible for countries in South America including Colombia and Panama reporting to head office in the UK. Having entered the auction sector whilst a student at Wits working part time at art auction house Stephan Welz & Co (in Association with Sotheby’s at the time), Ariella again returned to the auction industry shortly after her return to South Africa in 2007. Her academic achievements include a BA Joint Honours in Economics from Wits (with Majors in Art History & Italian), an MBA from UCT’s Graduate School of Business where she was Class President, and an exchange Scholarship to Columbia Business School (NY, USA).

Ariella has been the recipient of numerous awards including:

On a business front, under her guidance Ariella has helped develop a maritime division which saw US$40 million in dry bulk carrier auction sales in 2016 alone plus significant institutional deals with major Mining houses. Notable previous sales include a submarine, a diamond mining ship (sold from Namibia to Russia) and a Lear jet which was sold to the USA. Her understanding of metals and niche moveable assets helped the company secure exclusive agreements with several listed mines for the effective disposal of their redundant assets over 3 year periods.

Just before co-founding Clear Asset, Ariella’s most recent venture included launching an online platform, securing blue chip listed entities to sell their surplus mining stock through an online auction platform.


Jerry Mabena – Director

Mabena is the Chief Executive Officer of Thebe Services Division. He is an entrepreneurial business executive with vast experience in the marketing and property management sectors.

As the CEO of Thebe Services, Mabena is responsible for managing a portfolio that contains 16 subsidiary and associate Thebe companies that are service-centred, offering services ranging from financial to tourism services, as well as media, energy (petroleum services), and property management. Mabena has started and ran a number of businesses, some of which are still operational. He has a degree in industrial psychology and economics from Rhodes University. He also holds a diploma in project management from Damelin and a certificate program in accounting and finance from Wits Business School. Mabena has held various senior positions in companies such as Unilever, J Walter Thompson, Ucingo Marketing, and Kagiso Exhibitions and Events. Before joining Thebe in 2011, he was the CEO of Kagiso Property Holding which was behind prime developments such as Willowbridge Lifestyle Centre in Cape Town; the Vaal Shopping Mall in Vanderbijlpark; the South African Revenue Service Assessment & Enforcement Facility in Alberton; and the head of JSE-listed company, Tiger Brands, in Johannesburg.


Nobuzwe Mbuyisa – Director Business Development

Nobuzwe joined Clear Asset in February 2017 as part of the company’s equity transaction with Thebe Investment Corporation.
In addition to being active in driving new business development opportunities, Nobuzwe sits on the board of Clear Asset. She joins with extensive experience of the supply chain management function in the FMCG as well as the petroleum sector. Prior to this, she was the Chairman at Chevron South Africa; during the 8 years at Chevron she also worked in Strategy Development, Business & Capital Planning, Government Relations, and Pricing Management. Nobuzwe also worked for South African Breweries and Unilever South Africa where she held various positions in Supply Chain Planning & Development, Logistics, Manufacturing, Product Development, and Quality Assurance. Nobuzwe is a non-executive director at Cape Point Partnership which manages and promotes the facilities at Cape Point; Sparks & Ellis, uniform supplier and manufacturer; and Botha Roodt, a fresh produce agency. In 2013 – 2015, Nobuzwe served on the board of the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA), and in 2013 – 2014 was a board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa. She obtained her Honors Bachelor’s degree in Science from the Walter Sisulu University for Technology & Science, Mthatha. Nobzuwe also completed the Management Advancement Programme, and Applied Financial Management at Wits Business School; as well as the Leadership Coaching Programme at UCT Graduate School of Business.


Neliswe Booi – Director

Neliswa Booi is currently the General Manager of Thebe’s Media & Telecommunications portfolio. A position she has held since March 2016.
Prior to that, she spent over 10 years of her career in operations management and governance, corporate finance, investment advisory, indices research analysis and business analysis in various companies including Thebe Investment Corporation(Thebe) as the Executive Manager in the Chairman’s Office, National Empowerment Fund, RisCura Consulting, Citi Bank South Africa, JSE Limited and Standard Bank Corporate Investment Bank. She is a Non-Executive Director at Kaya FM, YeboYethu, Thebe Connect, Discover Digital, New Africa Investments and Non-Executive Chairperson at Thebe Foundation Trust Investments. She also serves as a standing invitee on the Executive Management and Social, Ethics and Transformation Committees of the Thebe Board. She holds a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Statistics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics from the Nelson Mandela University (formerly University of Port Elizabeth). She also completed a Programme for Management Development with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). She is an MBA candidate at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
